UConn’s streak has ended

31 Dec

The last team to beat UConn, April 6, 2008 in the Final Four, made history again tonight by beating the No. 1 ranked Lady Huskies 71-59, snapping their 90-game winning streak, the longest in NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball.

No. 8 ranked Stanford looked like the National Champions with their stifling defense (largest lead 13) and offensive firepower from Jeanette Pohlen (career high 31 points, 8 rebounds).

Maya Moore struggled the entire evening, scoring a season-low 14 points and snatching 8 rebounds.

Amazingly, this is UConn’s first loss in almost 1,000 days.

Stanford has now won 52 straight games at home, and doing so tonight in front of many Stanford alums.

The lady huskies (12-1) next host Villanova on January 5.
